Geisterberg St. Johann

The Alpendorf gondola lift in St. Johann / Alpendorf takes you up to the "realm of griendly ghosts". Over 40 large and small play stations along the hiking paths – most of which are suitable for baby strollers – make the Geisterberg one of the most popular excursion destinations in the Salzburg region.

The highlights are the Geisterberg village, the Geisterberg lake, the Geisterberg castle, Drachis Via Ferrata for youngsters and beginners, water games, climbing towers, swings and numerous slides.

Over 40 large and small play stations

You can cover part of the route from the mountain station of the Alpendorf gondola lift to the center of the Geisterberg Adventure Mountain with the tractor-pulled Geisterberg train. The transport of baby strollers with the Geisterberg train is possible as well. Family-friendly hiking trails lead you from the Geisterberg to the natural oasis Sonntagskogel with the idyllic Sonntagskogel Lake and on to the Grafenberg in Wagrain.

Drachis Via Ferrata

The via ferrata for youngsters and beginners on the Geisterberg in St. Johann is an absolute MUST-DO for families who would like to experience some true alpine adventures.

Drachis Via Ferrata is the perfect challenge for adventure-hungry kids and adolescents from the age of 12 to explore and push their own limits.

Secured to a steel cable, you and your parents climb the 40-meter-high „Drachenwand“ rock wall and cross a ravine on a 6-meter-long rope bridge. The start of Drachis Via Ferrata is  approx. 5 minutes' walk from the Buchauhütte.

TIP: Climbing Friday

You have never been on a via ferrata and would like to try it out? From July 9th to September 3rd, 2021 you can climb Drachis Via Ferrata every Friday accompanied by a certified mountain guide - including a safety briefing and many other helpful tips & tricks from the expert. If you need the appropriate via ferrata equipment, you can rent it at a discounted price.
